The HF16.3.70 is an aluminum angled base collar (shoe) that goes on an angled (rake) surface up to 40 degrees and fits the 1/2″ square balusters. It has a 1.33″ square base and is .35″ in height. Powdercoated Satin Black. Fits angles up to 40 degrees. Pairs with the 16.3.70 level base collar.

  1. Remove the old balusters by cutting them in the middle and twisting out the ends.
  2. Drill a 3/4" hole about 1" deep in the bottom of the handrail and 2-1/2" to 3" deep in the tread, centered where each baluster goes.
  3. Measure each baluster: hole-to-hole distance plus the depth of the top hole. Cut the bottom with a metal chop saw or angle grinder.
  4. Slide a base shoe onto the baluster, insert the top into the handrail, then drop the bottom into the tread hole.
  5. Fill the tread hole with epoxy or construction adhesive, slide the shoe down and tighten its set screw.
