The Wood Baluster is available in solid Red Oak or paint-grade Poplar that is pre-finished white, with two heights: 36″ and 42″. Paint Grade is poplar wood that is primed and pre-finished white. If you want to paint it you may need to lightly sand it and/or use a high quality primer before painting. Consult your local paint supply store for more info. Key specs: Model : 5360. Material : Solid Red Oak or paint-grade Poplar (primed & Pre-finished white). Dimensions : 1-3/4″ square width; available in 36″ and 42″ heights. Design : Square baluster. Usage Tips: Install the baluster securely into your staircase structure using appropriate fasteners or adhesive suitable for wood. For the paint-grade version, if you wish to custom paint this on the job site, light sanding and a high quality primer may be required. Consult your local paint supply store before installation. - Remove the old balusters by cutting them in the middle and twisting out the ends.
- Drill a 3/4" hole about 1" deep in the bottom of the handrail and 2-1/2" to 3" deep in the tread, centered where each baluster goes.
- Measure each baluster: hole-to-hole distance plus the depth of the top hole. Cut the bottom with a metal chop saw or angle grinder.
- Slide a base shoe onto the baluster, insert the top into the handrail, then drop the bottom into the tread hole.
- Fill the tread hole with epoxy or construction adhesive, slide the shoe down and tighten its set screw.
